Klondike Bluffs

Ran this trail today “backwards” (compared to the description) and there were one or two obstacles that might deserve a 4 rating, although most of the trail is consistent with the current 3 rating. The long slick rock section was fun. The best dinosaur tracks are behind the fence at the bottom of the slick rock where it meets the dirt trail, but if you walk around there are more.

No major obstacles, but enough continuous small obstacles to give it a higher rating.

Fun trail. Quiet, we saw no one else on the trail. The slick rock section is a lot of fun. This trail is less about the technical side and more about enjoying the ride. I would plan on doin this as an out and back if you’re in a full size, as the escape route to salt valley road was definitely very challenging for the truck.

Fun trail with a short hike at the end to breath taking views. We ran a Bronco Badlands 2 door and Wrangler 2 door on 33's with no issues. Just watch out for that wide flat rock near the beginning, it can jump up and bite you if you're not paying attention. Other than that, the trail itself is not difficult. We ran this late morning good weather. This was our first time to Moab and driving this trail is like nothing you find in other parts of the country. While on the vast slick rock it almost feels like you're on another world.

Definitely a fun trail but can get a little sketchy when wet and muddy. There are a few parts where the road is washing away a bit and you get some pretty strong lean toward the edge. Overall had a good time but my heart skipped a few beats!

A little snow and some cold temps today, but a fun day on the trail. Didn’t see another vehicle.

A bit cold today and somewhat muddy, but never a bad day on the trail in Utah. Ran this with a brand new stock 392 wrangler.

Fun trail and the dinosaur tracks are a definite bonus. A few technical sections which added some spice to the trail. We ran it in a ‘21 Gladiator Rubicon with a Mopar 2 inch lift and 35s without any issues.

Stock Wrangler on 33’s and had no issues on any obstacles which is good cause we were the only ones out there this morning. Our daughter had her first experience navigating and we were thankful for the white strips leading the way up the rock. That being said it’s definitely rough in places and getting down to Salt Valley Road definitely triggered the pucker factor in the passengers. Driver of course had a blast. The descent IS a sh@tshow and should not be attempted by a beginner. I think that section needs its own rating. .

This is a great trail - we ran it backwards from Salt Valley Road using the Klondike Bluffs Connector - the obstacles are fun and easy with multiple line choices making it a fun trail for any vehicle. The slick rock section has some cool cracks to play on. The step shown in the trail review isn't that big. Breakover angle was a problem for some of our vehicles - had to be careful not to belly drag stuff off on the crest, but only if going straight over it. There's a steep rock that we came down - you can easily go around it. Required some good line choice to avoid tipping, but super fun.

Jeep TJ with 2.5 lift and 35” tires handled the trail well, route finding on slick rock became a challenge at times. Found end of trail at outlook to have the gate closed so unable to hike further. Baby Steps exit portion verged on difficult at times as trail has experienced some erosion and trail use…

The wash in the beginning is absolutely destroyed. Don’t attempt if you’re a beginner or in a rental. That being said, we got up this, hiked to the bluffs and took baby steps down into arches NP. Baby steps was/is a sh itshow. You’ve been warned.

If you are in a high clearance 4x4, this trail isn't too difficult and the rating is spot on. The biggest issue we had was trying to follow the trail. It's not highly used and the signs are far between. There's also a few mountain biking trails that cross it. We took a wrong turn and ended up on something the sign said was the Baby Steps Loop (note: this was not the Baby Steps exit). It appeared to be a short 4x4 alternate trail that appears to intersect this trail at Waypoint 13. It's just more slick rock but goes further to the north and eventually ends up back with the trail. If you don't have a highly capable vehicle, you'll need to run this back out in reverse because the exit at waypoint 16 via the Baby Steps is more difficult than you would think. Loved the views and the dino tracks. Some of the rock rings around the tracks appear to have been scattered and some prints don't have rings around them at all any more, so be careful where you drive.

Easy fun trail. Took a Ford Raptor. Fun Dino tracks and fun slick rock. There was only one large step that was 30in. Hard in a Raptor but easy in a Jeep. Only issue was using the Escape Route at the end. If you are in anything bigger/wider then a jeep you are going to struggle at the end with the escape route. Recommend turning around at end if you have a large unit. My review on escape section is posted separately.

Great trail for kids with the dinosaur tracks and to get away from high trafficked areas. Didn’t see another vehicle today.

This is a great short trail! I took the kids out there to see the Dinosaur tracks and do some Jeeping. There are definitely some tippy spots but if you drive slow and have a high clearance 4x4 you should be fine. I can’t imagine driving a full size down this trail. We were in a wrangler jku with 4” lift and 35” tires. It was really tight in places. Also the trail goes from easy to moderate on the verge of hard real quick. Not many places to turn around once you get to that point.

I love this trail. It's scenic, yet not boring to drive with its minor obstacles. Some of the obstacles seemed a little easier, while some seemed a little more chewed up. You will definitely want 4 WD

This is a great trail with some fun obstacles. Most of the concern you will experience will be off-camber segments. A few spots get rather tippy! The views along the way are awesome, and just enough technical obstacles to keep it interesting. I'd definitely run this trail again!

Like others have said, it starts out a dirt road. Once it turns to the wash, the trail is pretty fun. I went through it after a 3 of 4 day snow. It was either snowy, icy or dry sand and rock. A fun mix. I downloaded the GPX and followed the route via another app (I really wish TrailsOffroad.com had an app with maps and the option to download these GPX to it). I high recommended following the GPX path. It can be easy in some spots to end up on the off the trail.

Fun trail. Obstacle 7 was the most challenging but easily handled in stock vehicles with a spotter. Our group was from Grand Junction, CO and this makes for a great short day trip.

It's been 6 years since I have been on this trail and I don't know why it took me so long to go back. Didn't see another vehicle on the trail, my kids loved the dinosaur tracks and we had a great day.

The snow was minimal and not a problem at all. Trail is in good condition We rode the trail as a connector via baby steps (over to salt valley road It was a great ride. Baby steps had a bit more snow due to it’s northeast slopes which was a little more nerve racking since I had not ridden that side before but we had no serious issues.

We did this with a stock 2010 long bed, extended cab Chevy 2500. That is my disclaimer. We wanted to go into arches to see Tower arch and Eye of the Whale arch. We had to take take the truck since side by sides aren't allowed in the park. Let me just say, this trail was fun, but stressful. There are quite a few spots where the wheelbase caused issues. Nothing really bad, but there were plenty of frame scrapes and spots I had to build up a few rocks to keep the scraping to a minimum. Really, I think the biggest stress was doing it alone with my wife and young son. It made for alot of getting out for spotting and worrying about getting stranded with no one else in sight. If you have anything even a bit more geared toward rock crawling, this trail will be a piece of cake. There are lots of dinosaur tracks to see and the large section of slickrock was pretty neat. I plan to go back with our side by side and enjoy it a bit more.

We enjoyed ten days of dry camping in the area. Great trails for Jeeping, mountain biking, and hiking. We went to the end of the road and hiked into Arches on the top of the bluffs. Awesome views.

Klondike Bluffs is an amazing 4WD road on the north side of Moab. It is right off Highway 191, so it is convenient to access. The road traverses State Trust Land, and has an immense mountain bike trail network. Klondike Bluffs is scenic and one segment includes visible dinosaur tracks. Fantastic trail!

Klondike Bluffs is one of those overlooked trails, probably due to the distance outside of Moab (a mere 15 minutes north). I have always heard of it, but never heard anybody recommend it or say they've even done it before. Well I will be the one to say it: You need to do this trail! It has some fun obstacles, many spurs, and absolutely incredible views. I can see this trail being a big challenge or impossible with a decent rainstorm. It is a different type of scenery compared to the traditional Moab red rock. The white bluffs are mixed in with the red dirt once you reach the top. You can see traces of copper with all of the green stains near the old mine. The escape route over to Salt Valley was an awesome exit out to another few great trails (Tower Arch and Eye of the Whale). What a fun day!
